Why take this STEAM Course?
Demand for data scientists is strong, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The number of data scientist jobs is expected to grow 19% over the next two decades. Almost three times as fast as the average growth rate for all other jobs.Â
How does this work?
The STEAM Program is a virtual program and happens three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. A designated Yazi Guide will provide you with the necessary meeting links and serve as your coach during the learning sessions.
The program includes a STEAM kit with all the materials and licenses required by the curriculum. Each participant is required to have their own personal computer/tablet to join the program.

Course Levels
Level 1 - Data lab foundations
Students will learn that data science is a process that is used to help make better choices about the things around us. The activities in this kit will introduce students to the importance of observing and collecting data, making sense of data, and making decisions based on data. Students will collaborate with peers to conduct scientific investigations, make observations, collect and record data, and create visual representations based on the outcomes. Students will find patterns, make predictions, and reflect on how data collection can help scientists solve problems.
Level 2 - Data observations
How can students use data to learn about their world in a meaningful way? The activities in this kit will address the need for students to become data collectors, analyzers, and communicators. It will also support students as they explore the concepts of energy, Earth’s systems, and forces and interaction through investigation and data analysis. Students will work with multiple forms of data collection and follow proper safety procedures using equipment.
Level 3 - Big data, big ideas
How can students use data to learn about their world in a meaningful way? The activities in this kit will address the need for students to become data collectors, analyzers, and communicators. It will also support students as they explore the concepts of energy, Earth’s systems, and forces and interaction through investigation and data analysis. Level 4 - Data literacy and visualizations
What role does data play in your life? We live in a data-driven society. From marketing to medicine, data is used in every industry. In this kit, students will investigate the importance of data and explore basic statistics as they determine the best way to collect, analyze, and present data to their classmates. They will explore RegEx and its application for quickly cleaning data. From designing the method for collecting the data to presenting it using their choice of video, spreadsheets, graphs, and slides, students will be involved in every aspect of the data lifecycle. They will even discuss the proper maintenance for storing data.
